A very interesting story of the last 20 years including the Cameron's failed gamble which ended up with Brexit and how the policy backfired for England as by saying rightfully "no" to the political side of the project, the country also reneged on the other side, the positive economic part of the deal.
Could there be an interesting parallel with the recent gamble of Macron in calling early elections in France which will likewise probably lead to his downfall and the acceleration of the divergence among European nations?
Conversely, anyone who has been to London lately, can see that poverty is very unequally shared as rows of Bentley adorn streets in Chelsea and South Kensington. Rome in the 2nd Century CE was likewise a prosperous city full of marble and misery while the Emperors were facing each other North of Lugudunum (current Lyons) in 197 CE. Then it started getting worse, much worse!
