A sad sunset for Europe trying to stay relevant. They made a bet on Ukraine, then doubled down, and again. Now they're broke and about to lose their shirt. The low-key but long lasting war they expected in Ukraine is approaching a conclusion. They will have to pay for reconstruction, to replenish their stockpile of weapons while engaging in a commercial war with the US, their main strategic partner, a trade war with China, the rising superpower, and an energy war with Russia, their only source of cheap energy. This means accelerated decline in sight. By the end of the 2020s, Europe will be marginalized.
European leaders had an emergency meeting to discuss the peace plan in Ukraine. Not because they want peace. They object to it.
The peace plan that President Trump has begun to negotiate with President Putin has them in a panic. They say it is because the plan does not involve the involvement of the Ukrainian President Zelensky. But...do you see him in this photo? You won't because he's not involved in this meeting either.
European leaders are pretending that a peace deal would set Russia upon the rest of Europe. That is unserious propaganda. They are trying to plan out how to keep the war going against Russia without U.S. troops or money. There is no way that they could do that. I explained it to my children this way: That would be like my 8 year-old daughter taking my 14 year-old son's room by force. It is not possible.
What kills me the most is who IS at this table. I put it this way when I first saw this photo: The front three people in this photo failed up and now have the power to lead Europe to war. Antonio Costa stepped down as Prime Minister in Portugal amid a corruption scandal linked to green initiatives but now he is the President of the European Counsel. Mark Rutte resigned as Prime Minister of the Netherlands before a No Confidence vote could remove him due to his failed liberal policies but now he runs NATO. Ursula Van Der Leyen lost direct constituency elections but was still installed to the Bundestag via the party list system. Now she is the President of the European Commission. None of them represent the people of Europe's appetite for war. The people of Europe do not have an appetite for war but these death eaters are trying to convince the world otherwise. May they finally begin to fail down!
