It would be difficult to find a better teacher than Stephen Kotkin to understand the roots of the Russia Ukraine Geo-strategic conflict.
Unlike what we hear in the Media, what is at stake is not Ukraine but Europe and more specifically Germany. Using the Northstream 2 pipeline would cement the relationship between Russia and Germany, fracturing NATO and the control the US has of Europe. In this respect, more than the aggressor, Russia is challenging the hegemony of the US.
We will likewise soon witness a similar challenge by China in Asia. This is unavoidable. How we deal with these challenges will shape the 21 Century but before that it will be the source of much instability over the coming years. In any case, this crisis is here to stay as it cannot be solved easily. Better get used to it!
