As everybody else, we have spent far too much time focusing on the Iranian conflict recently. But understood in context, this war obliges us to confront the real issues of our time, starting with the end of Globalization (The Fukuyama end of history illusion), the return of "spheres of influence" and systematic confrontation at the borders.
Being invested as we are in the current paradigm, it is difficult to imagine a different world. A world where mega-cities dissolve simply because they are not efficient anymore for the vast majority of people. Where trade between blocks slows down to a trickle. Where our actual population will, maybe sooner than expected return back to the planet's carrying capability.
Jiang Xueqin may not be correct on all his points below, nobody is, but he is raising important subjects that need to be discussed in earnest before we have to deal with them urgently in a not so far away future.
