Scott Ritter: Trump Readies Tactical NUKES, US Carrier in CRISIS – Iran’s Trap is Set (Video - 1h04)

While Western audiences are almost daily being warned about Global Warming, a far more ominous treat is growing in the background: The possible use of nuclear weapons.

Following their initial and terrible display in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 at the end of the second World War, a rapid escalation ensued. From allied against Germany and Japan, the US and USSR relations fell off a cliff in 1947 when Churchill declared that an Iron Curtain had fallen over the Warsaw Pact countries. This was followed by the explosion of the first Soviet bomb in 1949, the Korean war in 1950 where General MacArthur argued for the use of the bomb against the onslaught of China and the Cuba Crisis in 1962. The following two decades saw an explosion in the number of nuclear weapons but at the same time some agreements and guardrails to limit their use.

Then, surprisingly, nuclear weapons receded in the background. They were "there" but tensions in the 2000s were lower and their usefulness was restricted to deterrence as they were less and less perceived as actual weapons. This period didn't last long. As China's economic might kept rising and Russia recovered from the ashes of the Soviet Union, tensions were rekindled and the agreements painfully negotiated in the 1980s were allowed to lapse. And as usually happens, people forgot the lessons of history and faced with diminished American power, resurrected tactical nuclear weapons to compensate for the perceived lack of US credibility.

To say that this is dangerous would be an immense understatement. A couple of months ago, it transpired that Trump was dissuaded to use a "nuke" to reach Pickaxe Mountain in Iran where uranium is said to be stored. True or not, it is certain that as the effectiveness of conventional weapons dwindles, the temptation of nuclear weapons will rise.

Scott Ritter is a specialist of nuclear disarmament so his insight on the subject is extremely valuable as we are entering uncharted waters. The concept of dissuasion guaranty that victory over a nuclear power nation would be meaningless since retaliation would insure Mutual Assured Destruction (M.A.D.). If there was "some" systemic intelligence left anywhere in the world, this would be top of the list of issues to be solved. The fact that it is not, tells us a lot about our priorities, as well as how they are engineered and "sold" to the public.
