I do not necessarily agree with everything Alex Krainer says but let's agree that at the very least it is food for thoughts. As usual with such big scale "conspiracies", the issue is not if it's true or not but how much of it is true.
The fact that the Western financial system is an extractive system is not controversial. The question is: What is the alternative? If the alternative is no development at all due to the lack of capital then of course the understanding becomes more complex.
When you compare, for example, two countries "cursed" by the transient wealth of oil such as Norway which created a transparent fund and became extremely prosperous and Venezuela which distributed subsidies to build artificially a consumer society which in the end was not sustainable, you can see the alternatives at work.
How do you protect yourself from the vultures? Asia does it best with a wide margin between countries like Malaysia and the Philippines for example and Africa worst with South America and the Middle East in-between.
Where I do converge with Alex Krainer is when you see the destruction of countries such as Qaddafi's Libya which was prosperous under the "dictatorship" and rendered miserable in the name of "democracy".
In the end, this is very much what this blog is about: Not offering answers but asking the right questions. The discussion below helps a lot in this respect:
