Conspiracy? or not? (Joke)

What is a government? The sum of its incompetence or the sum of the pressure applied to it? More likely a mixture of the two?

Two hundred years ago, Adam Smith noted that: "People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public." And sure enough, while younger, my father would often tell me how he had to spend time with competitors distributing market shares. That was then.

Later, while working with government officials, I was often in the room when shady deals were arranged with officials smuggling back full 15 kg hams in their first class excess baggage. No risk whatsoever. People are people and with power comes abuse. Necessarily.

Today, most governments excel at the art of democratic kabuki while selling to the highest bidder. Donald trump is just more honest about it which tends to infuriate the other, less skillful cockroaches.
