What if the truth is not what you expected? Do you still want to know? I would argue that most people would rather easily give up and go for the reassuring illusion. Plato was right but he only saw the screen. (The shadow of reality in the cave.) He would have been appalled had he turned his sharp gaze to the crowd and saw the happy faces.
